The Creative Collective

Creative Collective

From choreography to costume design, stage crew to creative direction, kids are supported in building life long creative skills, friendships, and opportunities for youth-led community productions in this 6 week series.

Saturdays 11am-12pm starting October 19th

Supporting young artists ages 7-11 through every stage of creative production

Dance. Design. Dream

We support young artists through every stage of creative production: observing, exploring, developing craft, and more. Whether your child is interested in choreographing dances, creating costumes, or working behind the scenes, we will provide practical guidance to help them achieve their artistic goals. During this 6 week series, we aim to build life-long creative skills that will grow with the individual needs and interests of each student.

Who is an Artist?

Who is a dancer? Who is an artist? How we answer those questions largely determines the way we engage with the arts. If you ask most adults whether they see themselves as dancers, they will say no (try this for yourself!) If so many children create art of all kinds, why do they stop? At what age does that happen? How can we better equip our children to view the arts as a way to care for themselves and others throughout their lives?

Create!

When we view creating art as an essential part of being alive, we ask new questions. As artist Peter London writes: “Better to raise the questions Monet did than to mimic his responses.” What are his questions, the task he set himself? They are remarkably similar to the questions any artist, any creative person asks. “What does an idea look like? How can I give form to a feeling? How does this whole mess fit together?” We will guide our kids through this process in our Creative Collective!
