Workshop 1, 3:00-4:30 pm: AfroBeastiletto technique and training (beginner friendly)
Workshop 2, 5:00-6:30 pm: AfroBeastiletto combos and choreography (intermediate to advanced)
Workshops are $35 each or $60 for two, advance price. At the door, workshops are $40 each or $70 for two.
Nneka Irobunda is a Nigerian born dancer, and creative director based in NYC. Nneka has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Dance. She is the founder of Afro-Beastilettos and travels the world teaching her style. Her classes are a mix of Afro-fusion and heels technique.

Flamenco workshop – kids/ adults with Marissa Urzua
January 20th, Flamenco Kids workshop – 2 pm
A fun introduction to Flamenco. Kids will learn Flamenco steps, Arm and hand movements. Come have fun while building confidence with new friends! age 3 and up boys and girls. Kids should have any shoe with a heel, character shoes, Flamenco shoes preferred.
Flamenco workshop for Adults of all levels – 3 pm
Come work on footwork patterns, hand movements and upper body. Flamenco shoes preferred but any character shoe or shoe with approximately 2 inch heel. Try to avoid any shoes with rubber on the bottom.
$15 single class/ $25 Kids and adult class
About the teacher: Choreographer Marissa Urzua is new to Pittsburgh and has been studying Flamenco dance for over 20 years. The last 10 years she has studied flamenco under Timo Nunez (Director of Pasión on NBC’s new show World of Dance) The past 7 years Marissa has also been training in Salsa on 1 and has choreographed for many Ladies Salsa teams. She is very excited to work with Art In Motion Dance Studio in the upcoming new 2018 year!

With an educational background in Health, Physical Education & Exercise Science, Tiffany has a diverse and wide range of professional experiences. She has spent 10 years in the health and fitness industry, working with diverse populations through many different fitness domains including weight loss, strength and conditioning, sports performance, wellness coaching, endurance training and yoga.
Tiffany will lead a mix of deep stretching, flow yoga, balance, core, breathing, and relaxation. She will finish the session with a cup of relaxing lavendar tea.

AXÉ DANCE Workshop

Let’s travel to Bahia, Brazil through dance …
What is axé dance?
Samba Axé is a solo dance that started in 1992 during the Brazilian Carnival season in Bahia when the Axé rhythm replaced the Lambada. For years it became the major type of dance for the North east of Brazil during the holiday months. The dance is completely choreographed and the movements tend to mimic the lyrics. It’s a very energetic kind of dance that mixes elements of Samba no pé and aerobics and because of the lyrics, which are made for entertainment, the dance generally has some sort of ludic element.
Several Axé music groups such as “É o Tchan” have as part of their marketing strategy to always release a choreography together with every one of their songs; therefore, Samba Axé is an ever-changing kind of dance with no commitment to maintaining any formal set of steps or routines (there’s actually no such a thing as a basic step in Samba Axé.
This workshop you will learn some new and old axé dance choreograph .

Ladies Night Out: Bellydance Basics Primer
AUGUST 18TH, 6-8PM, at Art in Motion Pittsburgh
“Belly dance is natural to a woman’s bone and muscle structure. The movements center on the torso rather than the legs and feet, as is common in Western dance. The belly dancer isolates parts of her body, to move each independently in a completely feminine interpretation of the music. The music seems to emanate from her body, as sometimes she emphasizes the rhythm, sometimes the melody of the song.” – Suzy Evans of the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance
Have you ever wanted to try out bellydance class but just don’t seem to have the time? friends to join you? enough courage to jump on in? Well this is your lucky day! Our bellydance basics primer will provide you with an overview of the basic bellydance repertoire as well as an introduction to zills (finger cymbals) all happening in a fun and friendly environment!
